Daniel Sofer is a mechanical engineer (specializing in internal combustion engines) from the Politecnico di Torino (Italy), founder and Engineering Director of the company DSA, dedicated to the creation and manufacture of innovative fuel injectors and combustion management systems for alternative fuels with totally revolutionary concepts. Over almost three decades of Research, Development and Applied Engineering, technologies and systems have been created for engines ranging from Formula One engines to large-scale thermoelectric plants. For years, dedication has been focused on the use of alternative and renewable fuels in engines originally operating on the Diesel cycle, effectively creating a new way of managing combustion: neither Otto cycle nor Diesel cycle. In this new frontier of combustion management, ethanol is emerging as a fuel of particular applicability, starting with the sugar-energy sector itself.

He has extensive experience as an executive and manager in the agricultural sector. He chaired the Mato Grosso Institute of Meat and the Institute of Agricultural Defense of Mato Grosso. He is currently Coordinator of the Bioenergy Commission of the Instituto Pensar Agro (IPA/ FPA), participates in the Productive Chambers of Sugar and Alcohol and Corn and Sorghum in the MAPA, is a founding member of the PCI Institute (Produce, Conserve and Include) and representative of the Corn Ethanol sector at the Ethanol Supply Monitoring Table coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).

Jaime Finguerut, a chemical engineer with a postgraduate degree in Bioprocesses, has been working with sugarcane processing since 1979, much of his career at the Copersucar Technology Center and C T Canavieira, where he led the innovation and optimization of industrial processes. Since 2017 he has led the ITC – Instituto de Tecnologia Canavieira, where he leads the MM.IA project, based on online NIR sensors and AI, for Advanced Control and increased Industrial Efficiency.

José Roberto de Oliveira, known as “Zé do Hazop”, is a renowned expert in process safety, with over 40 years’ experience in the sugar-energy sector and 12 years in Hazop. Founder and CEO of Eysen, José leads Dynamic Hazop and LOPA analyses, applying predictive simulations for safety and efficiency. With a degree in Sugar and Alcohol Production Technology and specializations in Saccharotechnics, Ethanol Fermentation, Basic Sanitation and Polymeric Materials, he is a reference in methodologies for identifying risks and aligning P&IDs with operational reality.

Mário Ferreira Campos Filho is 39 years old. He is an economist graduaded from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), with an MBA in Finance from IBMEC and Government Relations from FGV Brasília.

He has been active in the sector since 2003. Currently, he is the executive president of the Sugar-Ethanol Industries Association of Minas Gerais – SIAMIG – and the Unions of the Sugar and Alcohol Industry in the State of Minas Gerais.

In 2021, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Sugar and Alcohol Sector Chamber of the Ministry of Agriculture and Bioenergia Brasil.

He is also the president of the Environmental and Sustainable Development Council of the Federation of Industries of Minas Gerais.

Dr. Nastari holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics, from Iowa State University.

Was Professor of Economics at FGV – The Getúlio Vargas Foundation, in São Paulo, in undergraduate and graduate level courses (MBA, Masters and Doctoral programs) from 1984 to 2001.

Member of PAPSAC, the Private and Public, Scientific, Academic and Consumer Food Policy Group, at Harvard University, in Cambridge, MA, USA, since 2012.

Professor at the MBA in Agribusiness Joint Programme established between ESPM in São Paulo and Université de Nantes, France, since 2015.

Former Executive Director and President of the Board of the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineers (AEA), from 2000 to 2002, during the 1980s he helped the design of ethanol specifications which enabled the use of ethanol in fuel injected engines.

He has served as member of the Technical Committees of Brazil’s Interministerial Council on Sugar and Alcohol, National Energy Commission, and Commission for Reexam of the Energy Matrix. He has assisted the Brazilian government in Energy Planning (1984-86 and 1991-93), industry deregulation (1997-1999), trade negotiations (1991-2004), and trade disputes.

Representative of the Civil Society Specialist in Energy at the National Council on Energy Policy, at the Federal Government of Brazil, designated for the period of 2016 to 2018, and reassigned until 2020.

With extensive experience in trade negotiations and trade disputes at the International Trade Commission and the World Trade Organization, Dr. Nastari has acted before the Brazilian Government as Chief Economist in the trade disputes involving ethanol exports to the United States (US ITC), and subsidized sugar exports from the European Union, European Union bananas import regime, and Brazilian regime for the import of used and retreaded tires (WTO).

He is Arbitrator at the “Camara FGV de Arbitragem” (Arbitration Chamber of the Getulio Vargas Foundation), and at “Camara de Conciliação e Arbitragem da Sociedade Rural Brasileira”) and has acted as Expert Testimony in many cases, at this Chamber and at ICC, the International Chamber of Commerce, in Paris.

Lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – Second Assessment Report (2AR), and Consultant for Biomass Energy other than Wood, to the World Energy Council.

Rafael Abud has been working in the renewable energy sector for over 15 years. Currently, he works as FS’s CEO and has been working in the company since its foundation, leading all development stages – from startup to expansion – to become one of the largest ethanol companies in Brazil. Previously, Rafael was responsible for the development and management of all enterprises under Summit Agricultural Group management in Brazil, mainly those related to the operation of holdings in agricultural and renewable energy properties. Before joining the Summit and FS, Rafael founded JETBIO and BioVentures Brasil, where he headed projects in biodiesel production and processing technology, energy generation, production of energy crops and aircraft biofuels. He currently serves on the board of the Brazilian Corn Ethanol Union (UNEM), which he co-founded, and on the board of Sindalcool – MT, an association of the ethanol industry in Mato Grosso. Rafael has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from FAAP.

Renata Isfer

Renata Isfer is Executive President of the Brazilian Biogas Association. She was Secretary and Deputy Secretary for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels at the Ministry of Mines and Energy from 2019 to 2020. She co-coordinated the negotiation of the revision of the onerous assignment contract and the holding of the surplus auction. She was the Ministry’s Legal Advisor for 3 years and actively participated in the creation of public policies that enabled the recovery of the gas, oil, electricity and mining sectors. She has 16 years’ experience as a Federal Prosecutor in the Federal Attorney General’s Office. She holds a master’s degree in Law, Public Policy and Economic Development, and participated in an extension course at the Harvard Kennedy School on women’s leadership. Co-creator of the “Yes, they exist” project, which aims to promote gender equality in leadership positions, and of EmpodereC, a mentoring program for young women in the energy sector.
